Damaged or Defective Items

Should I refuse acceptance of damaged items?

Categories: Damaged or Defective Items Delivery

In most cases, do not refuse the entire shipment solely because one or more items appear damaged. Instead, inspect the shipment carefully and document all visible damage before signing the carrier’s Bill of Lading (BOL) or delivery receipt.

  • Clearly note damaged cartons, cabinets, panels, or other products on the BOL or delivery receipt.
  • Use specific descriptions such as “Box Damage / Product Damage” and identify the affected items whenever possible.
  • Take photographs of the damaged packaging and products, including both wide-angle and close-up views.
  • Keep all packaging and damaged materials until the claim has been resolved.

If the shipment is severely damaged, appears unsafe to unload, or the carrier advises you to refuse all or part of the delivery, contact The RTA Shop as soon as possible for guidance.

Important: Signing for a shipment without noting visible damage may make a freight claim more difficult or prevent the claim from being approved.

What do I have to do upon delivery?

Categories: Damaged or Defective Items Delivery

When your cabinet shipment arrives, please inspect the delivery carefully before signing the carrier’s Bill of Lading (BOL) or delivery receipt.

  • Verify the number of pallets, cartons, loose pieces, and other items received.
  • Look for visible damage to boxes, cabinets, panels, or other products.
  • If anything is damaged or missing, clearly note it on the BOL or delivery receipt before signing.
  • Use specific descriptions such as “Box Damage / Product Damage” or “Missing Item” whenever possible.
  • Photograph any visible damage before removing packaging when practical.
  • Keep all packaging and damaged materials until the claim has been resolved.

For concealed damage discovered after delivery, photograph the damage before assembly, modification, or installation and contact The RTA Shop promptly.

Claims for missing, damaged, or incorrect products should be reported to The RTA Shop within 15 calendar days of receiving the shipment, together with photographs and any other documentation reasonably required to process the claim.

Important: Failure to document visible freight damage or shortages on the delivery receipt may prevent a freight claim from being approved.
